For the last two months I've been asking around 50 of my friends what they think the best songs of the last decade have been.
Each week they've patiently endured my voting forms and chase up emails and now its finally come to an end - Voting has closed.
But now you have to wait until New Years Eve to find out who's made the final list and most importantly which song is the best of the 2000s. (I'm such a tease!)
In the meantime I'll send you a out a few hints and details of some of the songs that didn't make the grade.
Starting today with the five songs I'm personally upset didn't make the Top 100.
1. Alcazar - Crying at the Discotheque (=#104)
This bizarre song from Swedish eurotrash band Alcazar reached the dizzying heights of #13 ont the UK charts in Dec 2001 (#14 in Oz). The band split in 2005 but thankfully reformed and now regularly appear at G-A-Y.
It's done remarkably well on our chart - I have no idea why... I don't have THAT many gay friends do I? errr....
Best thing about this song is the bizarre video involving dancing animal masks. The eagle is my fave!
2. The Streets - Fit But You Know It (=#104)
How this didn't make the Top 100 I do not know! My favourite Mike Skinner track reached #4 in the UK charts in 2004 and #18 on Triple J's Hottest 100 (Brit people if you don't know about Triple J's Hottest 100 - look it up here)
Video also perfectly sums up the British summer holiday abroad (well for 'certain' types of people anyway)
3. Toploader - Dancing In The Moonlight (=#120)
Much to my dismay but to Mike Hurst's joy this King Harvest cover from 2001 (2002 in Australia) failed to make the Top 100.
Though it does kind of remind me of an ex who was a bit of a tool so perhaps its a good thing!
Can't embed the video but you can find it on youtube
4. Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like You (=#148)
When this was first released it failed to make the UK Top 40. However after a Vodafone advert (and a Holden Astra ad in Australia) this rocketed up to #5. (SELL OUTS!)
It's also got a great vid - hula hoops, female mechanics and karaoke! (Though my fave bit is the 'so-so' hand gestures)
5. Keane - Everybody's Changing (=193)
In 2004 the album charts were all about Scissor Sisters, Maroon 5 and East Sussex 'piano rockers' Keane. Unfortunately Keane failed to get a single song in the Top 100 list (unlike M5 and SS - hint!). Which is a shame because this song is a gem.
Not a bad video either - the best bit being when chubby faced lead singer, Tom Chaplin, is replaced by an Indigenous Australian. Always a good thing.
